Why one Sycamore tax code lists nine public bodies

DeKalb County's SY07 tax-code detail shows nine separate governments and districts serving one representative property, each with its own authority, budget, meetings, and records.

Authority

Who makes the decision

The seven-member elected Board takes final public action. Committees such as Learning and Teaching, Business Services, Policy, and PTAC can develop or recommend work, but the full Board retains final authority where Board action is required.

Public money

How it is funded

The district uses local property taxes, state and federal funding, fees, grants, and other education revenues. Its 2026-27 goals call for a balanced budget and a June 30 fund balance at or above 20 percent.

Meeting rhythm

When the public work happens

Regular 2026-27 meetings are generally held at 6:00 pm at Sycamore Middle School, with committee meetings scheduled separately.

Responsibilities

What this body controls

  • Curriculum, instruction, student achievement, and school programs
  • Student well-being, safety, transportation, and support services
  • Staffing, labor agreements, policy, and organizational leadership
  • School facilities, district finances, contracts, and long-range planning
